Born in Iran, Ben Kelkye immigrated to United States in 1975 to finish his education. In 1983 he graduated from college. Later, he applied for, and was awarded US Citizenship. He then founded a successful home improvement business specializing in historic renovations.
Ben gives back to the community by performing extensive volunteer work. As a member of the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA), he was awarded the prestigious IWLA National Outdoors Ethics Award, which recognizes individuals or groups who have done outstanding work in promoting outdoor ethics. He currently serves on the Board of directors of the IWLA Frederick, MD Chapter #1, and also heads the organization’s award winning Youth Program.
Appointed a Master Training Counselor by the National Rifle Association (NRA), he is accredited to deliver nearly every NRA course offered. On average, he teaches more than 500 students each year. As if that were not impressive enough, he also instructs and certifies the next generation of NRA Training Counselors, and NRA Certified Instructors, providing them with the benefit of his years and depth of experience.
Recognizing Ben’s overriding passion for the shooting sports, and the sincere manner that he promotes safe gun handling to his students, the Maryland Natural Resources Police inducted Ben into the Hunter Education Hall of Fame. He was subsequently elected, and currently serves as President of the Frederick County Sportsman’s Council.
Ben has been recognized by the Frederick County Board of Commissioners for his achievements and volunteer work. He has also testified numerous times before the Maryland State Legislature as a recognized expert on firearms, firearm safety, hunting and the shooting sports.
